Graphite crucible interaction with Fe–Si–B phase change material in pilot-scale experiments

چکیده
Abstract Fe–26Si–9B alloy is a promising high temperature phase change material (HTPCM), due to its heat of fusion, small volumetric change, abundance, and low cost. Additionally, graphite has been identified as candidate for use container this alloy. In study, the feasibility using HTPCM investigated in pilot-scale. Specifically, 4–5 kg master alloys were melted crucibles an induction furnace, which underwent 2–3 thermal cycles range 1,100–1,375°C. The results showed that SiC B 4 C precipitates formed alloys. However, these carbides found be present only on surface solidified not main body. Still, chemical composition remained relatively stable during cycles. It was also seen crucible withstood without cracking. Therefore, approach.

متن کاملPhase change and stress wave in picosecond laser–material interaction with shock wave formation
When background gas is present in pulsed laser– material interaction, a shock wave down to the nanoscale will emerge. The background gas will affect the phase change and explosion in the target. This study is focused on the void dynamics and stress wave in a model material (argon crystal) under picosecond pulsed laser irradiation. Our results show that existence of ambient gas and the shock wav...
متن کاملLattice Distortion in In3SbTe2 Phase Change Material with Substitutional Bi
Sb atoms in In3SbTe2 (IST) are partially substituted by 3.2-5.5 at.% of Bi atoms. As a result, the NaCl crystal structure of IST is slightly distorted. The distorted inter-planar angles observed with fast Fourier transformation of the lattice images are within the maximum range of interplanar angles calculated by density functional theory. When the Bi content is increased, the crystallization t...
متن کاملA Model of Material with Phase Change and Applications
The macroscopic model of solid-solid phase change presented makes use of internal variables to represent the phase fractions and the local strains. As such, it can be cast in the framework of standard materials with internal constraints. These constraints are accounted for by Lagrange's multipliers. Reversible or irreversible phase changes are considered in a general way. Material stability is ...
متن کاملHybrid atomistic-macroscale modeling of long-time phase change in nanosecond laser–material interaction
In this work, large-scale hybrid atomistic-macroscale simulation is performed to study the long-time material behavior in nanosecond laser–material interaction. Different phase change phenomena are studied, including solid–liquid interface speed, temperature, maximummelting depth, and ablation rate. Full solidification/epitaxial re-growth is observed within 60 ns for the laser fluence of 5 J/m....
